Carnival 55: A Time to Celebrate with Pride and Responsibility

St Maarten Carnival has always been more than a festival. It is one of the island’s most powerful expressions of culture, creativity, and community spirit. This year’s celebration is especially meaningful as the island marks the 55th edition of Carnival, a milestone that reflects decades of music, mas, tradition, and shared memories.

For The Windward Islands Bank, Carnival represents the vibrancy and pride of St Maarten. It is a season that brings people together across generations and backgrounds, from the excitement of the parades and the energy of the Carnival Village to the creativity and dedication seen in every costume, performance, and troupe presentation.

For several years, WIB has been at the forefront in sponsoring and even organizing children’s troupe during the parades. WIB Staff had been instrumental in presenting very interesting troupes with themes ranging from “Money does not grow on trees” to “Save and be as happy as a clown”.

WIB is proud to highlight its collaboration with troupes for the parade. These partnerships reflect the bank’s continued commitment to supporting local culture and the many individuals who work behind the scenes and on the road to make Carnival the unforgettable experience that it is. Troupes are a vital part of Carnival’s identity, bringing the celebration to life through colour, movement, and storytelling, and WIB is pleased to stand alongside them during this milestone year.

At the same time, Carnival is also a reminder that celebration and responsibility must go hand in hand. As we enjoy the festivities, we all have a role to play in protecting our well-being and keeping our island clean. Whether attending a jump-up, lime, or parade, the public is encouraged to celebrate mindfully by using recyclable cups where possible, avoiding single-use plastics, disposing of garbage in designated bins, staying hydrated, protecting their ears from excessive noise, and shielding their skin from the sun. These simple but important actions can help ensure that Carnival remains enjoyable for everyone.

During the season, many residents and visitors will also be supporting local businesses, whether through food, costumes, events, or everyday spending. In that spirit, WIB also highlights safety in spending by encouraging the use of its Kompa Leon cashback card, which offers cardholders added value on qualifying local purchases. It is one more way to keep spending local while enjoying the Carnival season.

As St Maarten celebrates Carnival 55, The Windward Islands Bank extends best wishes to the entire community for a safe, enjoyable, and memorable season. Let us celebrate with pride, support the culture that unites us, and work together to keep our island clean.
